It was a bookmark record

From about 2007 to 2010 this domain ran a social bookmarking community. Thousands of its addresses began with bm_ and held a single saved link: a title, an outbound URL to someone else’s page, and sometimes a one-line note. Those records were mostly not about this publication’s subject — they were saved links to news stories, shopping pages and whatever else people were reading.

Those addresses return 404 deliberately. Sending them to a vaguely related page would land you somewhere that does not answer what you clicked, which is worse than an honest error that explains itself. There is no equivalent page, so this page says so instead. Method sets out the rule.

The record itself may still exist in the Internet Archive, which holds captures of this domain from 2007 onward. The page it pointed at very often does not.

It was an account page

The old community’s login, profile and registration routes are gone along with the community. What happened to the accounts is a page, not a redirect.
